Experimental object
Carbon black
Experimental instrument
ATS jet dispersion machine
Laser particle size analyzer
Experimental background
Carbon black is an amorphous form of carbon. It is a light, loose and very fine black powder, with
a very large surface area, and is the product of incomplete combustion or thermal decomposition
of carbon-containing substances (coal, natural gas, heavy oil, fuel oil, etc.) under the condition of
insufficient air. It is also used as a reinforcing agent and filler for rubber, as a colorant for inks, coatings
and plastics, and as a UV screen agent for plastic products.
Experimental difficulty
Carbon black surface area is generally relatively large, easy to absorb water in the surrounding environment,
a long time will produce flocculation, the need to form a stable dispersion system, so the dispersion has been
one of the important indicators of carbon black.
Experimental purpose
The D50 of the dispersed sample is below 500nm
Experimental technology
1. Pretreatment of carbon black powder with water into experimental sample
2, ATS jet dispersion machine high-pressure processing twice
Experimental result
Particle size measurement
After the carbon black sample was processed by ATS jet disperser, D50 reached 0.215um
Experimental summary
1. During pretreatment, the concentration of carbon black mixture is very high, and a small amount of fractional
addition is needed to finally make the experimental sample
2, the treated sample D50=0.215um, meet customer requirements
